Bonsai

Jim England is the bonsai artist. He has hand selected and planted each of the trees we
offer. He selects a particular pot for each tree. The pot should always compliment the tree
and the setting. He plants them, trims them, landscapes them, waters them, and basically
babies them constantly. Jim loves his trees as he loves the art of bonsai.

You really should purchase bonsai from someone who has raised the tree.  We are often
told that people are afraid to buy a bonsai. They have either had bad experiences before
or they have heard stories from others about bad experiences.

If you purchase a tree that has the stones glued into the pot, you probably will not be able
to keep the tree alive. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, the glued mass does
not allow the water to reach the roots and the tree basically is starved of nutrition.
Secondly, the glue itself can poison the soil and the roots and the tree is already dying
when you take it home. You do not need to be afraid to buy a bonsai from us. Jim is here
to guide you through the proper care of your tree and to answer all you questions. We
even offer tree sitting services, consultations, and answer calls for help.

Bonsai is an ancient art. The literal translation is a tree in a pot, but the art is so much
more than that. Just look at the beauty that can be created.  These look good in pictures,
but you really need to come and see them in person.

This site is always a work in progress. If there is something in particular you are looking
for, please come back and visit soon to find it. Or if you're really wanting to know
email us!
For those new to the art of bonsai, it is
pronounced “BONE' sigh,” the “bon”
being the tree and the “sai” being the pot,
literally “tree in a pot.”

Semi Cascading Juniper in Square Raku Pot
<<
Here is a semi-cascading juniper in a raku fired pot. The pot is almost square in
shape and has incised lines to give it the appearance of bark. The tree rises
about 12 inches above the pot and the entire canopy is about 14" from top to
bottom.

Below it is a detailed look at the trunk of the tree and the stone and moss
growing at the base of the tree.
A root-over-rock style Ficus Tree in a shallow earthenware pot. The stone in
the back is a porous volcanic stone and the small roots are actually growing
into it. This tree is about 15" tall.  The pot is 8" across and about 1.5" tall.

Root details of the ficus.

tree is a full 49 inches from top to bottom. The pot is 6 inches tall and 8
inches wide. You won't find many to compare with this one!

The image below it shows the detail of the trunk of the long cascading
juniper to the left. Notice the graceful curve of the trunk and the small
stones placed at the base of the tree.

P.S. Our stones are
NEVER!!! glued into the pot!
Here is a lovely cypress in windswept style in a brown earthenware
pot with 3 feet. This one has 3 reddish stones and a small fern
growing at the base.

Juniper in Fountain
Here is a very unusual fountain with a small semi-cascading
juniper planted in it. The water flows out from the wide area just
beneath the tree and gently flows down the textured pot below
to the lower pond which is approximately 13 inches across.
Tree, pump and stones are included.
